Benefits:
- • Reduced electricity costs/ Bills for Households & Govt. Departments.
- • Increased use of renewable energy.
- • Reduced carbon emissions.
- • Simple structure, easy installation, low investment and maintenance costs, and high durability.
- • Reduce the burden on the national grid during the daytime, peak hours and in the hot/ cold season.
Challenges:
- • High Upfront Capital Cost to install systems compared to other part of the country due to higher transportation cost in Ladakh which is around 10-15% higher than rest of the country.
- • Lower Electricity Retail Tariff: Majority of consumers have average billing of less than Rs 500 per month. Therefore, the break even period for the investment is around 5 years.
- • Limited Working Season in Ladakh due to extreme cold weather conditions.
- • Multi State Level Vendors (MSLV) not participating in Ladakh due to challenges like limited working season, higher transportation cost and hilly areas.
